Treating the eye contour area

What is the eye contour area?

The eye contour area is one of the most fragile areas on your face. It needs special attention to get rid of dark circles and/or bags and to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.

The skin in the eye contour area is particularly thin and fragile. Fine lines can quickly appear there due to the eye’s natural blinking action and the muscle contractions used to make facial expressions.

Dark circles

Dark circles are rings of very thin skin (on average, four times thinner than on the rest of the body) visible under the eye.

Dark circles do not appear in the same way on every face. Here are some types of rings you might notice under your eyes:

Hollow circles

these are usually due to skin ageing and a loss of the skin's natural elasticity.

Brown circles

this type of circle is due to concentrated pigment in the cells in the eye contour area.

Bluish circles

the thin, almost transparent skin in this area means that blood can show through. The blue colour is caused by sluggish microcirculation making the blood vessels visible.

Under-eye bags

Under-eye bags are often due to genetics and get more pronounced with age.

The main cause of these bags is usually water retention or fat deposits under the skin of the lower eyelid, combined with sagging skin.

The problem can be exacerbated by lack of sleep, fatigue and stress.

Wrinkles around the eyes

Because the eye contour area is so thin and fragile, it is where we see the first signs of skin ageing. The following will gradually appear:

Wrinkles and crow's feet

At the corner of the eye.

Frown lines

Between the eyebrows, which make you look severe.

Under-eye wrinkles

On the lower lid, which make you look tired.
